❝𝑫𝑬𝑻𝑬𝑪𝑻 𝑫𝑬𝑪𝑬𝑰𝑻: 𝑯𝑰𝑻 𝑫𝑬𝑳𝑬𝑻𝑬❞ or DDHD is an anti-phishing campaign that aims to spread phishing awareness through means of infographics, informative posts about the topic, and solutions on how to avoid getting your personal data stolen online.
Research reveals that the average internet user is normally not aware (or not particularly concerned with) of phishing before having fallen prey to this type of high-tech scam, which happens to be the number one culprit to most network breaches inflicted by hackers today. (Brecht, 2019)
Phishing works by sending messages that look like they are from a legitimate company or website. Phishing messages will usually contain a link that takes the user to a fake website that looks like the real thing but is actually full of malware. (IT Governance, 2023)
Our goal is to prevent phishing from happening by spreading awareness on how to recognize signs of deception in order to protect online users from this type of scam. Moreover, we, as a campaign, want to build a safe digital space for all netizens to enjoy.
You may be asking, “Can user awareness truly protect us from phishing completely?” And the answer is no. However, knowledge can help diminish the likelihood of these kinds of incidents.
Anyone can be a victim of phishing. Therefore, let us always be mindful of the texts, emails, and other online offers we receive that may look fishy because it is probably phishing! It’s better to be safe than sorry.
